The Silent Law

Sometimes it’s like lock jaw,
the gritting of your teeth,
the inability to find relief
in allowing things to slip,
because a slip means a
fault and a fault means a
burden and a burden directly
relates back to a weakness,

and if you’re not perfect
during every hour of the day,
at all times without any failure,
if you’re not a polished machine
ready to terminate anything in
its path, young lady, daddy will
abandon you again.

You keep your mouth closed,
because the past has proven
as much as the present and
likely the future, that all you
say in relation to your own
thoughts and feelings can and
will be held against you in the
court of formidable enterprise.

You will be fired from the family.
